KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 11: One of the longest running literary competitions in the State, the 24th Spero Meliora 2016 was conducted on the theme “Break the ice and steel a march” on September 10 at Kohima Village Council Hall.
The event was jointly organised by the Dolphin Club Kohima and Kohima Village Students’ Union and supported by Khriehu Liezietsu, Parliamentary Secretary of Youth Resources and Sports, Music Task Force, State Lotteries and chairman DPDB, Kohima.
The inaugural session was graced by Khriesalie Vizo, Commissioner Secretary of Information & Technology, as the guest speaker. He exhorted the gathering with references from the rise and fall of human civilisations in the past and reminded them on “why we need to value our cultural and traditional virtues to prevent our society from deterioration.”
The events conducted during the one day extravaganza were singing (solo and cultural song), essay, painting, debate, spelling bee and quiz, which were graced by representatives from Kohima Village Council, Kewhimiapfü Mechü Krotho, Kohima Village Youth Organisation, Kewhimia Zavipfümia Krotho and Kohima Village Gazetted Officers Association.
In the cultural song competition, Pfuchatsumia Students’ Union (PSU) bagged the first place, while Dapfhütsumia Students’ Union (DSU) and Lhisemia Students Union bagged the second and third positions respectively.
The title for the solo competition was won by Seyiekruonuo Yhome (LSU), while Khriesakuonuo Rutsa (PSU) and Neizhazhünuo Rutsa (PSU) were placed second and third. In spelling bee, Avinuo Sachü (DSU) emerged as the winner.
In essay, Medosanuo Rutsa (PSU) bagged the first place, while Mezhükhrietuo Solo (TSU) and Nguluonuo Rutsa (PSU) bagged the second and third positions. Neitseizolie Mechülho (PSU) stood first in painting, followed by Nounengutuo Khezhie (DSU) and Neikuozo Zatsu (TSU) winning the second and third positions.
The best speaker for the debate was given to Seyievinuo Mere (PSU), followed by Khriezokhotuo Dzüvichü (LSU) and Medosenuo Solo (TSU).
In quiz, Visienuo Dzüvichü and Medosinuo Vizo (LSU) emerged as the winners, while Keduoneizo and Neikhrienuo Solo (TSU) bagged the second position.
