Kohima, April 21 (EMN): A 40-year-old man was seriously injured when a speeding truck hit him, and an Eastern Mirror pick-up truck parked on the roadside near Ladies Mile Road in Kohima, at around 7.45 am, on April 21.
According to officials at North Police Station, Kohima, a complaint has been registered against the truck driver identified as Limlemong Sangtam (21 years), resident of Padum Pukhuri in Dimapur. He is currently in police custody.
He was reported to be driving under “heavy” influence of alcohol.
The injured person, identified as Boynao Singh, was rushed to the Nagaland Hospital Authority Kohima.
According to the medical report, Singh suffered multiple skull fractures, brain injury, clavicle fracture, and lower abdomen injury. He is in dire need of blood (group A) and is on life support, according to the doctor.
Interestingly, three FIRs—one each by North Police (Traffic), Eastern Mirror and family members of the victim—were filed against the accused on the same day.
The accused, after hitting the person and the pick-up truck, kept driving but ended up going off the road below NHAK. He attempted to flee from the scene but was caught by residents of the locality who handed him over to the police. The truck was loaded with tiles and plastic water storages (Sintex).
