The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has alleged that Assembly Speaker (NLA) threatened its vigilance cell member for seeking information through Right to Information (RTI) Act.
NPCC president SI Jamir along with his officials told reporters here today that as concerned citizens and being the only opposition party in the State, the Congress Vigilance Cell filed an application through RTI Act seeking information regarding the number of official vehicles and drivers attached to the NLA Speaker and Deputy Speaker on August 14.
Complying to the RTI application filed through NPCC Vigilance Cell member N Yona Konyak, the PIO and Additional Secretary of the state Assembly furnished the details stating that three officially entitled vehicles and three other pool vehicles with four drivers for the Speaker have been provided.
The Deputy Speaker has been entitled with two officially entitled vehicles and one as pool vehicle with one driver.
However, Jamir regretted that after three months of filing the RTI, Thepusayi Neinu, Personal Assistant (PA) to the Speaker threatened the applicant for the filing the RTI through a letter on November 27 last.
He said the Speaker’s PA through a letter threatened Konyak saying that “if any untoward incident come to the Speaker or for that matter to his family members or his PS/PA, drivers, vehicles you shall be held wholly responsible”.
NPCC general secretary Vaprumo Demo questioned as to how the PA of the Speaker, who is not an official appointee, could write such a letter on behalf of the Speaker. He also argued that Nienu has no proper knowledge that the Speaker Chotisuh Sazo is under ‘Z’ category and not under ‘Z+’ category security.
In this connection, the NPCC has asked the Chief Information Commissioner, Nagaland to take the threat seriously and take necessary action deemed fit under the given law.
Further, the NPCC also expressed that if anything happens against the RTI activist before the matter is resolved at an appropriate forum, the NLA Speaker would be held responsible.
