Dimapur, Sep. 1 (EMN): Nagaland Legislative Speaker Sharingain Longkumer has expressed sadness at the demise of former President of India Pranab Mukherjee.

“He was one of the tallest leaders independent India had produced during the past century. As a parliamentarian, as a minister and administrator and finally coming to occupy the highest office of the land, he distinguished himself in every area he chose to associate himself with and left an indelible imprint of his personality on all of them. He was undoubtedly a statesman of outstanding caliber,” the condolence message read.

“I share the grief of the bereaved family and the rest of the nation. May the departed soul rest in peace,” it added.

Deputy Chief Minister and BJP Legislature Party (BLP) leader Y Patton also mourned the death of Pranab Mukherjee.

“Pranab’s political career spanning a glorious five decades is enviable. He was a diplomat, a veteran politician and a fine statesman. In his death, the country has lost a respected citizen of the world,” the condolence message read.

On behalf of the BJP legislators, Patton conveyed deepest condolences and prayed that the departed soul rest in peace.
