Dimapur, Sep. 7 (EMN): Sovima Village Council (SVC) has restricted illegal constructions to prevent water logging, hunting and trapping of wildlife and un-tethering of domestic animals within its jurisdiction.
The decision to this effect was taken during its meeting held on September 4, informed the village council in a joint statement issued by its chairman Sebastian Zumvu, head GB Thepfukeduo Kuotsu, and the council secretary Ruokuosilie Rupreo.
It informed that natural rainwater outlets/ drains in the jurisdiction of the village should not be blocked/ filled up/ occupied by any person without alternative arrangements by the property owners so as to prevent water logging. It stated that the council officials would undertake inspection and those natural drains found to be encroached thereby causing water logging in the upstream areas should be cleared by the property owners failing which the village council would impose penalties deemed fit and take necessary action to clear the blockages.
To ensure proper out flow of rain water etc., it stated that no permanent structures such as concrete compound walls should be put up without the permission and consultation of the respective khel GBs.
The council also imposed a complete ban on hunting and trapping of wildlife within the jurisdiction of Sovima village. It warned that defaulters would be fined with INR 5,000 on the spot and added that their guns, air rifles, traps etc. seized would be auctioned the proceeds of which would go to council funds.
The council has also restricted free-range rearing of cattle/ goats within the village jurisdiction. It informed that un-tethered cattle/ goats would be slaughtered and sold, the proceeds of which would be deposited to council funds.
While rearing of swine is encouraged, it stated that waste matter from the stys should be disposed off in a hygienic manner through compost pits and should not be allowed to run through drains passing into properties of neighbours.
