Dimapur, June 29 (EMN): A total of 46 volunteers turned up for a blood donation camp organised by the Sovima Health and Wellness Centre under the aegis of Sovima Village Council, in collaboration with District Hospital, Dimapur, on June 29.
In a message, chairman of Sovima village council, Sebastian Zumvü, has expressed happiness on the overwhelming response of the residents for the blood donation camp.
“We must remember that we, fortunate and healthy ones, have enough blood to donate to those acutely in need. Our donation can mean life or death for some people who are in dire need. Let us strive towards making Sovima village synonymous with blood donors, the one and only village to have that sobriquet in the world!” Zumvü said.
Also interacting with some of the donors, he pointed out the positive aspects of frequent blood donation such as lowering risks of heart attacks and also an easy way to detoxify the body.
While informing that the longevity of red blood corpuscle is only about 120 days after which the cells perish and are regenerated, Zumvü appealed to donate blood for those in acute need instead of letting the precious blood cells go to waste. Lamenting that Nagas have a serious misconception about blood donation, he suggested the church to create more awareness about the benefits and need to donate blood.
Dr. Temsu Lemtur, senior specialist at District Hospital, Dimapur, revealed that blood donation in Dimapur district accounts to almost 70% of total blood donations in the state. He informed that the blood bank at DHD caters to all the major hospitals in Kohima and even to other districts of the state.
He stated that an average healthy person between the age group of 18 to 65 years can safely donate blood four times in a year under medical supervision.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the Sovima village sub-centre management committee, Gebou Metha, has expressed gratitude to all the donors for voluntarily coming forward. He also acknowledged the team from the District Hospital, Dimapur, for coming forward to participate in the camp.
It informed that 10 donors from Combat Academy, 15 from Tetso College, 10 from Global Peers Skilling and Development Institute and 11 from Sovima village turned up for the blood camp.
