Bokajan, (Assam) June 15 (EMN): There is only one reason for the backwardness of Karbi Anglong and that is corruption said Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. He continued his attack on the erstwhile Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), now the Hill State Demand Council (HSDC) and Congress for keeping the district backward. CM Sonowal was campaigning for Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) election under Bokajan LA.
Speaking at campaign meeting here at CCI playground, he said: “The ASDC and Congress have siphoned off funds which were meant for the development of villages in the district.
‘These two parties were power for so long but no step for the welfare of the people was taken.’ They have not showed the willingness to work for health, power, employment, to establish educational institute, for farmer’s welfare and that is why Karbi Anglong is backward, stated Sonowal.
Under BJP the funds will be put to justified use for the intended purpose. The days of the ASDC and Congress is finished, said Sonowal.
He said: “But the people need not lost hope. Change has come in. Under the BJP led NDA government led by PM Modi formed the government three years back and worked for the 125 crore people of India. From Kanyakumari to Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat there is equal opportunity for development and the people have seen the change.”
He said, unlike the Congress the BJP do not deal with the people in terms of money. In the days of the Congress no official work is done without paying bribe. BJP is strongly against corruption, we will do away with corruption in all government offices. The fund meant for the unemployed, the fund meant for women, for farmers will reach them, then progress will be build.”
He also said the farmers will get the right price for their produce, 24,000 villages in Assam will be provide with Rs. 1.2 crore for development, one lakh women SHG will be given Rs. 25,000/- one time grant, Rs. one lakh low interest loan will be given to unemployed youths. He said there will be no more kaccha roads, bamboo bridges or wooden bridges. The government has already allotted Rs. 2,000 crore for building 1000 concrete bridges.
He gave example of BJP led government’s work as Medical College in Diphu, building hospitals in Bokajan and Baithalangso. He said there is complete transparency and BJP will not do anything by keeping the people in the dark. By protecting the integrity of the Karbis all communities will go forward in the district. The BJP will not do anything by hurting the feelings of the people added Sonowal.
The meeting was attended by BJP candidates of Borjan- Longki Timung, Bokajan- Madhurya Dhekial Phukan, Sarupathar- Jagat Sing Engti and Deopani- Mukut Mahanta, BJP East Karbi Anglong vice president Roland Killing and MLA Dr. Numol Momin.
The chief minister also attended a campaign meeting at Duar Bagori for party candidate Ratan Engti.
