Some people trying to create complexities in NRC : Assam government
GUWAHATI, MARCH 30
Assam government today said ‘some people’ were trying to create complexities in the ongoing preparation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state.
“My doubt is that some people want to create complexities in the issue (the process to prepare NRC) …Please do not do that,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rockybul Hussain said in the Assembly. He was responding to a volley of queries, mostly by AIUDF MLAs, regarding preparation of the NRC and the faulty names in the supporting documents that a citizen has to submit to the authority. “Let us stop playing politics with these people … Please do not complex the issue further. We need cooperation from all of you. Our government sincerely wants to make a clean and correct NRC,” Hussain said.
He said the authority will accept any valid document from the list of prescribed supporting documents and will update the name accordingly. “Inclusion of ‘D'(doubtful) voters in the NRC is impossible. If some one of you have seen this happening, then necessary action will be taken,” the minister said.
Earlier, raising the issue during question hour, AIUDF MLAs Abdur Rahim Khan and Sherman Ali Ahmed said there are many errors in the names of the people in legacy data and the voter lists provided to NRC Sewa Kendras prior to 1971 are incomplete. AGP MLA Padma Hazarkia said no genuine citizen should be harassed and no foreigner should be included while preparing the NRC.
