Societal change depends on individuals: Temjenmenba
DIMAPUR — The platinum jubilee celebration of the Jangpetkong Kaketshir Telungjem Mungdang (JKTM) was formally inaugurated on Monday at Alongkima, Mokokchung, by the Advisor for Transport and Technical Education, Temjenmenba.
According to a press release, delegates from all of the JKTM’s villages and sub-units are attending the jubilee, which is being held on the theme ‘Mita yanglushidi’ (roughly translated as transforming vigilantly).
Temjenmenba, speaking on the theme, stated that transforming a society is largely dependent on each individual in the community. As a result, he challenged everyone, particularly the student body, to become better versions of themselves in order to bring about societal change.
Speaking about the economic scenario, he said that a time may come when the mineral resources in the Jangpetkong range will also need to be exploited for economic growth.
He, however, wondered if minerals like petroleum could be replaced by alternative energy sources in the near future and encouraged the students to think about it as well. Nonetheless, Temjenmenba said that natural resources will have to be exploited in the near future for economic growth.
In this regard, he cautioned that such economic growth will bring more people from outside as well as a change in culture. Therefore, he asked the students to be prepared for such a scenario and ensure that their culture and traditions are preserved.
In his speech, DIGP (Training) Imnalensa mentioned the state’s unemployment problem and cited the 72,000 registered educated unemployed youths in Nagaland.
In this regard, he stated that while pursuing a government job is a good thing, pursuing jobs in the private sector is also very important. Therefore, he called for skill enhancement and hard work among the youth and also called for a change in mindset and taking informed decisions.
Imkongmar, Advisor for Minority Affairs and Sericulture, also spoke on the occasion, and a solemn tribute was also paid to the JKTM’s departed leaders by observing a moment of silence.
