Social Welfare department holds social justice assembly

DIMAPUR — The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE) conducted a state-level social justice assembly for the districts of Kohima and Dimapur implemented during the financial year 2022-23 on August 30 at the conference  hall of the Directorate of Social Welfare in Kohima.

An update from Social Welfare Department stated that the state-level assembly was convened with an objective to review the process, coverage, issues and action taken status on the findings of social audit.

Altogether three schemes namely Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA) and SrCH under AVYAY and PMAJAY were audited covering seven institutions namely Bethesda Youth Welfare Center, Prodigals Home (IRCA), Good Samaritan Women Society and Yimkong Welfare Society (SrCH), Construction of hostels for SC students (PMAJAY) in Kohima and Dimapur districts.

The secretary of Social Welfare and chairperson of SLSJA and DoSJE panel members, Martha R Ritse, addressed and chaired the assembly, while Imtitoshi I Jamir, director of NSSAA, social audit unit, gave the introductory speech, and Imlirenla Sanglir, assistant director and Sezolu Swuro, district resource rerson of NSSAA, social audit unit, highlighted the social audit findings.

Report stated that resolutions were passed following the review made on the audit findings by the panel members of the assembly. 

The resolutions included:

1. Timely release of funds to the institutions by the Ministry.

2. Timely recommendation by the state government to be made in regards to project proposal for fund release.

3. State government to suggest guidelines to have a more flexible approach towards implementation of the scheme according to the needs of the people.

4. To conduct vocational trainings on skill building/occupational programmes for the inmates.

5. Outdoor activities for the inmates to be organised by the institutions.

6. To aid the inmates on application of Aadhar card for availing old age pension.

7. To aid the inmates on applications regarding Ayushman cards/ CMHIS in coordination with concerned departments.

8. The house recommended the central ministry to appoint a nodal person as a point of contact (PoC) to deal with institutional requirements.

9. The house recommended that the fund release order be shared with the nodal department by the central ministry. 

10. Open cases to be addressed by the institutions/ implementing agencies with action taken reports (ATR) on or before September 30.

Vivika Shohe, programme officer representing NRCSA-DoSJE, Delhi, and Kezhosano Kikhi, advocate at Guahati High Court, Kohima Bench, representing CSO attended the assembly.

It further stated that stakeholders of all the institutions headed by directors, officials from Social Welfare department, officials from the Higher and Technical Department headed by the joint secretary and ex-officio director, Lovitoly Sema, participated in the social justice assembly.
