Kohima, April 22 (EMN):
Minister of Housing and Mechanical and minister in-charge of Kohima for Covid-19, Tongpang Ozukum has expressed his contentment with the practice of social distancing in Kohima saying, it is a weapon to fight against the global novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Ozukum along with members of the Kohima district task force undertook inspection on practice of social distancing at market places in Kohima on April 22 starting from 8 am. Ozukum was accompanied by MLA Khriehu Liezietsu, deputy commissioner, Kohima, Thejawelie Gregory Sote and officials from Kohima municipal affairs.

Comparing his last visit (Monday) to the markets in Kohima, Ozukum observed that the citizens in Kohima have improved a lot in maintaining social distancing. “I think it had improved upto 95 percent,” said Ozukum.

He also put into record the efforts of district tasks force, district administration, police, Angami Youth Organisation (AYO), and other volunteers for sensitising and monitoring the people. He also appreciated the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) for reaching out to the stranded students and helping them in times of needs.

Meanwhile, the minister maintained that he would continue monitoring to ensure that people maintained social distancing and other guidelines issued by the government in its fight against the dreaded disease.

Sote, meanwhile, stated that the administration is working on plans and strategies to address the needs of the people in line with the government guidelines.

He remarked that things are changing for good as everyone learns on an everyday basis. He also acknowledged the relentless efforts of the committee on social distancing and lockdown enforcement with the involvement of various stakeholders.

The team also visited BOC area, Razhu Point and High School area. Later, the team visited the Kohima Municipal Council toll gate at by-pass road NH-29 to inspect sanitisation of vehicles coming into Kohima with essential commodities.
