Social audit public hearing held in Mokokchung, transparency stressed
MOKOKCHUNG — The second phase of the social audit district level public hearing under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for Mokokchung district was held on Tuesday at the DRDA conference hall, Mokokchung town.
Imyapangla, programme officer, MGNREGA, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Mokokchung, was the chairperson for the hearing.
The hearing began with an introduction by Vepo Keyho, state resource person, Nagaland State Social Audit Agency (NSSAA) social audit unit (SAU), who discussed the importance of social audit and district level public hearings, as well as the need for transparency and accountability in the implementation of the scheme.
During the event, a review presentation of social audit findings from 11 villages in Tsurangkong block was given, including Longpayimsen, Moayimti, Chungtiayimsen, Aokum, Shihaphumi, Aosenden, Aosungkum, Watiyim, Medemyim, Satsuka, and Vikuto. Yanathung Odyuo, block resource person, NSSAA SAU, presented the social audit findings.
During the programme, the independent observer was Abeinuo Jasmine Ashao, EAC (HQ), Mokokchung.
Speaking on the occasion, she emphasised the importance of proper record and document maintenance in order to reflect transparency and social accountability. She also directed the DRDA to conduct an orientation/training programme for village development board (VDB) secretaries to better understand the guidelines.
All social audit findings were thoroughly reviewed and discussed, and VDBs were directed to take corrective measures. It was also resolved that all VDBs would maintain wall paintings mandatorily.
It was agreed that job cards in the deceased or migrated categories should be reported to the relevant BDO for deletion or replacement with genuine households after due verification.
