Sümi Kukami Hoho urges NSSB to reschedule its November 14 recruitment examination, citing a clash with the Ahuna festival
DIMAPUR — The Sümi Kukami Hoho has asked the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) to reschedule its Combined Staff Recruitment Examination (CSRE), scheduled for November 14, as it coincides with Ahuna, the traditional harvest festival of the Sümi community.
In a representation dated October 12 to the NSSB chairman, the hoho stated that the scheduling would put candidates in a difficult position, forcing them to choose between an important recruitment examination and participation in a festival central to their community’s cultural life.
Ahuna, it added, holds historical and social significance for the Sümi people and is recognised in the Nagaland government’s annual cultural calendar, with its observance associated with November 14.
The hoho acknowledged the importance of a fair and transparent recruitment process, clarifying that its appeal was not intended to seek preferential treatment or obstruct the examination.

It urged the board to shift the test to a suitable alternative date and take major traditional festivals and community observances into account while preparing examination schedules in the future.
The representation maintained that candidates should be able to pursue employment opportunities without being made to choose between their career aspirations and cultural commitments.
