The Dimapur Sümi Council and Western Sümi Youth Front have condemned the sexual assault of two minor girls in Dimapur and Niuland, demanding fast-track trials.

DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Sümi Council (DSC) and the Western Sümi Youth Front (WSYF) have condemned two separate incidents of sexual assault perpetrated against minor girls in Dimapur and Niuland, demanding fast-track trials and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators.
According to police reports, the first incident involved the arrest of a 33-year-old person identified as Sadam Hussain on June 6 for the alleged sexual assault of a seven-year-old in Niuland.
In the second incident, a 32-year-old person identified as Raiz Uddin was arrested on June 3 for the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old minor in Dimapur.
The DSC stated that such barbaric acts committed against vulnerable children are an assault on humanity and have no place in a civilised society. The council demanded that law enforcement agencies and the judiciary fast-track these cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

It urged that the perpetrators be given the absolute harshest punishment possible to serve as a powerful deterrent and that under no circumstances should the accused individuals be granted bail or any form of legal leniency.
Additionally, the DSC urged the authorities and concerned departments to ensure immediate, comprehensive medical, psychological, and legal assistance to the victims and their families. It commended the Dimapur Police and the Women Police Station for acting swiftly on the complaints and securing the arrests of both accused individuals.
The WSYF stated it was gravely appalled by the horrific crimes. Declaring that there is absolutely no room for such depravity in society, the WSYF urged the judiciary and law enforcement to execute swift and uncompromising justice without hesitation or leniency.
The WSYF lauded the law enforcement agencies for their prompt action in apprehending the culprits and extended its deepest solidarity and promise of support to the victims and their families.
