Kohima, Oct. 25 (EMN): A smart pole has been installed in the heart of the state capital at TCP Traffic point, in front of the War Cemetery in Kohima.

The administrator of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), T Lanusenla Longkumer, told Eastern Mirror on Monday that the smart pole, which has triggered curiosity among the citizens, was installed by the Indus Towers Limited.

She informed that the smart pole will provide mast light, antenna for network providers, traffic point and also light-emitting diode (LED) display board for hoardings and advertisement.

The official said that the company is also providing free mast light to the state capital, bearing the cost of energy consumption. She added a similar pole has been installed in a vicinity of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Kohima to light up the area along with antenna.

The network service providers too can ask the company for installing their antenna from the pole, it was informed.

Meanwhile, another official of the KMC informed that the project took shape after the Superintendent of Police (SP) Kohima wrote a letter to the Municipal Council and Smart City Development Limited of Kohima to erect a traffic point at TCP gate as the previous one was damaged.

The official added that subsequently, a meeting was held between the KMC, Kohima Police and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohima, where the former (KMC) agreed to rope in agencies for installation of smart poles and got the Indus Tower Limited.

It was informed that the DC had issued no objection certificate for the installation of the facility.

The official added that the street light and the traffic point will be functional in a few days’ time.
