ADC Akuluto Tiayanger Jamir has banned the slaughter and sale of pork in Akuluto town following a suspected African Swine Fever outbreak.
DIMAPUR — Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Akuluto, Tiayanger Jamir, has prohibited the slaughter, sale, import, and export of pigs, pork, and pig products in Akuluto town under Zunheboto district and locations within a one-kilometre radius following a suspected outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF).
The order follows a report from the Office of the Farm Manager at the State Pig Breeding Centre in Akuluto regarding the death of pigs due to suspected ASF, according to an official notification.
A post-mortem examination conducted on the deceased animals indicated gross pathological lesions consistent with ASF, and samples have been collected for laboratory confirmation.
ASF is a highly contagious viral disease affecting pigs, capable of causing severe economic losses and rapid spread through the movement of infected pigs, pork, and contaminated materials.
