Skyline Club of Dimapur kicks off first women volleyball tourney

Dimapur, Oct. 5 (EMN): The Skyline Club of Dimapur organised its first women volleyball tourney on Oct. 3 and 4 at Padumpukhuri, Dimapur.

The programme started with invocation prayer by Sakola Thonger, while S Chuba Longkumer, former parliamentary secretary, was the guest of honor during the inaugural programme, an update said.

In his speech, he said sports is one of the most important co-curricular activities that begins right from nursery to professional colleges and university.

He said that apart from physical techniques and fitness, mental capability is also important in both sports and education as it goes hand in hand. He urged the club to organise such events to promote the young sportspersons and also to accommodate women sportspersons who get lesser platforms.

Earlier, a welcome speech was delivered by Apong Aier, president of the club.

While delivering his welcome speech, he also highlighted the club’s motto, its purpose, aims and objectives. He expressed hope that it could open windows for the upcoming youths and the younger generation. According to him, the youths of not only Nagaland but as the northeast have great potential and talents in the field of sports and hard work and sincerity, they can reach greater heights. Further, he expressed happiness and sincere gratitude to all those who contributed material and financial support and the sponsors for donating towards the club management and for successfully organising the events.

Later, the guest of honour declared the opening of the tournament. The match started between Punglwa “B” Youth and Mystic, where the Mystic volleyball team defeated the former 21:19. Altogether 18 teams are participating in the tourney.
