SKL outgun Nyaklangbou to lift Loyem Memorial Trophy
TUENSANG — Defending champions Son KükLaang FC outgunned new entrants Nyaklangbou Youth Fellowship 5-0 in the final of the 31st Loyem Memorial Trophy (LMT), played at Loyem Memorial Astro Turf ground, Tuensang, on Saturday.
The first half of the match came to a close with a goal each by Awan and Bashang of SKL FC, even as NYF FC struggled in vain to score a goal.
The second half of the match witnessed SKL scoring three more goals through the boots of Bashang and Ayen, thereby effectively sealing the fate of their opponents.
The tournament was organised by Chang Wedoshi Setshang, in collaboration with Chang Sports Association, on the theme ‘Soar high on sports rather than drugs.’
The champions and the runner-up received a cash prizes of INR 2,20,000 and 1,20,000, respectively. Changsomba of Tiaren FC was awarded the golden gloves, Chongshen of Nyaklangbou Youth Fellowship received the golden ball award, and the golden boot was shared by Ayen (SKL FC) and Longkhoi (Vetao Ayie FC), both with 15 goals each.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, SKL coach Changsang Ongbou, who is also a veteran football player and AIFF ‘D’ license holder, said the team owe their victory to the Almighty. He also further thanked their “supporters, well wishers and management team on the victory.”
Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, was the special guest of the closing ceremony.
