SKK supports age relaxation demand for government jobs
DIMAPUR — The All Sümi Students’ Union (SKK) has extended its “unwavering support and solidarity” with the Concerned Aspirants Group, who are seeking age relaxation for competitive exams conducted by the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) due to challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The SKK, in a press release, urged the government to consider the plight of these aspirants, who have been adversely affected by the pandemic, leading to a loss of crucial time in preparing for competitive exams.
“The age limit for appearing in these exams has become a significant barrier for many, and if not relaxed, will deny them a fair chance to compete and secure their future,” it said, adding that Nagaland, like many other states, faces a significant challenge of unemployment among its youth.
The SKK stated that it believes that denying age relaxation will further exacerbate this issue, leaving many young people without a future scope to appear in competitive exams due to the age bar, which will not only affect their careers but also perpetuate a cycle of unemployment and disillusionment.
Mentioning that several state governments in India have already granted age relaxation to aspirants due to the COVID-19 pandemic, recognising the extraordinary circumstances that have impacted the lives of millions, the SKK appealed to the government of Nagaland to follow suit and take a compassionate approach towards the Concerned Aspirants Group.
“The SKK stands in solidarity with the Concerned Aspirants Group and will continue to advocate for their rights and interests,” it maintained.
