SKK officials told to take lead for progressive growth
DIMAPUR — Pointing out that Sumi community has been lagging behind in every aspect, Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (MLA), Dr. Sukhato A Sema, called upon the officials of All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) to retrospect for progressive growth of the society and compete with the rest in terms of education, economy, employment and development.
Dr. Sema stated this on the second day of 51st biennial general conference of SKK at the multipurpose hall in Zunheboto town on January 23. Stating that quality education is the foremost priority in any given society, he appealed to the student community to put more efforts in competitive exams saying that without hard work, no one will attain a quality life.
“Without unity, there is no progress for any community,” he said and urged the responsible organisations for inclusive and progressive society and to help one another to attend the highest goal, an update from SKK stated.
He also urged the people to do away with the practice of proxy teachers and focus on quality education in Zunheboto district. Informing that there are many projects in the pipeline, he appealed to every citizen to cooperate with the government and public leaders.
Earlier, Dr. Sema unveiled the 51-U biennial general conference of SKK stone, while Rev. Dr. Daniel Chishi, SBAK (Aizuto) executive secretary, said the dedication prayer for the memorial stone.
The evening session was attended by K Khekiye Sema as the guest speaker.
He emphasised that making a positive impact is achievable by maintaining an open-minded perspective regardless of one’s background. According to him, it involves discerning between right and wrong and having the courage to reject what is detrimental.
KK Sema reminded that Sumis, in the past, played critical role in political fields, administration and other fields. In this context, he questioned the present generation where they are now adding, “we are not able to be even good followers.”
In a leadership role, he stated that they find themselves merely following corrupt practices in pursuit of financial gains, neglecting everything else of importance. He acknowledged their willingness to compromise their values, foreseeing a detrimental impact on their overall integrity.
He, therefore, urged the gathering to uphold the legacy of their forefathers with honesty and integrity.
He alleged that anyone who posses money can be elected in Nagaland because people only worship money politics. He added that people are equally corrupt and stressed on the need to change the electoral politics.
He further underscored the need for the church and every citizen of the state to take responsibility for bringing reformation in their society.
Greetings were delivered by Chumben Khuvung, NSF general secretary, and R Sunep Pongen, president of CNSA. Ngukato L Aye delivered the presidential address followed with Sumi indigenous war dance performed by Mudutsughomi cultural troupe and Thighale Yezashi cultural troupe.
