Mokokchung, Sep. 23 (EMN):
The All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) and the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) have jointly appealed to the NSCN (IM) and the seven Naga national political groups (NNPG) to reconcile by hammering out their differences towards finding a lasting solution to the Indo-Naga political issue in the larger interest of the Nagas in general and younger generation in particular.

The appeal to this effect was made during a consultative meeting of the SKK and AKM held on September 21 at the SKK Hiyam in Zunheboto. The two students organisations have urged government of India (GoI) “to genuinely assimilate the desired opinion of the general Naga public for the attainment of lasting peace towards more than seven decades old protracted issues” rather than keeping the people in dilemma without assurances and promises without any breakthrough pragmatically.

A joint statement from the two organisations stated that a ‘serious and sincere’ discussion was held on “the on-going Naga political issue between the Naga negotiators and the government of India (GoI) for an honourable, acceptable and an inclusive solution.”

The two organisations have expressed sadness to observe that the Naga national workers and the Naga civil societies were ‘deeply engaged’ in differences on many fronts, thereby affecting the ‘main objective’ of achieving a permanent solution.

In this regard, SKK and the AKM have appealed to the NSCN (IM) and the seven NNPGs “to pave a way out and come forward for reconciliation.”
Further, the two bodies were also of the view that the process of delimitation initiated by the GoI at this juncture was a “wrong step” and maintained that implementation of delimitation would have a severe impact on Naga solution.

In this connection, the SKK and AKM have appealed the GoI to keep delimitation exercise on hold and settle the Naga political issue first.
