Skills training for youths conducted at Phesama village
DIMAPUR — A one-day skills training session to promote self-employment among youths was conducted on March 30 at Merama Khel, Phesama village, Kohima.
According to a DIPR report, the programme was organised by Kevi of Village Level Organisation (VLO), Phesama Village, under RD block Jakhama, and promoted by the Day-National Rural Livelihoods Mission as part of the social developmental initiative aimed at addressing the issues of school dropout among youths.
Speaking at the training, area coordinator Sokhrienuo Rüpre-o stated that the number of school dropouts and unemployed youth is increasing year after year, resulting in a large number of youths heading in the wrong direction.
She encouraged the younger generation, particularly unemployed youths, to pursue an honest and self-sustaining livelihood without relying on others.
During the training, participants learned a variety of skills, such as traditional weaving, tailoring, basket making, pickle and biscuit making, hair cutting, and sketching.
The resource persons included self-help group (SHG) members under the VLO and self-employed youths from the village, including weavers, artists, barbers, tailors, etc.
VLO Phesama has been conducting skills training for youths for the past two years and intends to continue doing so in the coming days, according to the report, which also stated that 20 youths attended the training.
