IMPHAL — With the objective of empowering internally displaced persons (IDPs) with skills to generate income and become self-reliant, a seven-day makeup training programme for IDPs was inaugurated at Jiribam district headquarters, 220 km west of Imphal in Manipur on Tuesday.
The programme, with the motto ‘Empower yourself, transform lives with skill upgradation’, is specifically designed for women inmates of IDPs and girl students.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Jiribam Krishna Kumar emphasised the importance of teamwork and encouraged trainees to ask questions without hesitation. He also highlighted that the district administration is providing food, lodging, and healthcare facilities to IDPs free of cost.

Appreciating the Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission (MSRLM) Jiribam for initiating such training programmes and encouraging trainees to apply the knowledge gained to secure suitable jobs, DC also lauded IDPs who obtained jobs after attending similar training and urged the remaining IDPs to participate.
He also highlighted that the government aims to close all relief camps by December 2025 and has targeted making IDPs self-dependent and self-reliant before the closure.
Altogether, 26 trainees from Jiribam Higher Secondary Relief Camp, Bidyanagar Sports Complex Relief Camp, and Children Home Harinagar Relief Camp are participating in the seven-day training programme.
The District Information Officer (Jiribam), N Bidyananda Singh; Sub-Deputy Collector (Borobekra), M Devananda Singh; District in-charge MSRLM (Jiribam), W Premchand; and officials of MSRLM Jiribam were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the relocation of conflict-affected students of the Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Leimakhong in Manipur was conducted by organising a lottery draw in Imphal on Tuesday.
Altogether, 432 conflict-affected students from KV Leimakhong, who had been temporarily accommodated in the second shift at KV No. Imphal, were facing difficulties due to limited infrastructure and inadequate instructional hours.
To ensure a sustainable and quality educational environment, KV Sangathan devised a plan to relocate these students to three nearby KVs.
Manipur has been witnessing a series of unwanted incidents since the May 3 incident in 2023, when a student rally turned violent in Churachandpur district. Subsequently, the violence spread to other parts of the state, resulting in more than 250 people losing their lives and over 50,000 people being rendered homeless.
Since then, most of the displaced people are still staying in relief camps across the state, while some are taking shelter outside the state.
