DIMAPUR — Changtongya Educational Development Trust (CEDT), in collaboration with Changtongya KaketshirTelungjem (CKT), organised a one-day seminar on “Skill development, coding and career guidance” on June 30 at Nüngshi Reju in Changtongya village under Mokokchung district.
During the seminar held in three sessions, the resource persons delved into the subject matter thoroughly with each focusing on one particular theme. The seminar was attended by students from classes 7 and above, stated an update from CEDT.
Sharing on ‘Coding,’ Bendangakum Jamir, project manager of NK Square Infotech Private Limited, a Kohima-based IT service provider and software developer company, made the participants understand the basic aspects on the working of a computer as well as software programming and languages. He also elucidated on the software development life cycle, crucial uses and real-life applications of computer codes and programmes.
Jamir also highlighted the important area of application and scope of coding such as web development, mobile app and game development, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, internet of things (IOT), robotics etc. He further gave a demonstration on simple coding.
Speaking on ‘Skill development,’ T Imlisunep Ao, principal of Industrial Training Institute, has stressed on the essence of developing skills as well as identifying inborn skills.
“Mere education without any practical skills often puts one at a disadvantage,” he maintained.
Imlisunep also highlighted on the importance of loving ‘one’s land’ and making use of available resources. Besides, he also shared on various job and skill-oriented avenues as well as training available for students particularly from classes 6 to 12.
Speaking on ‘Career guidance,’ Sentiwapang, assistant commandant of 9 IR, focused on the step-by-step preparation and trajectories of building one’s career.
“Till class 10, it is about building blocks for one’s career, while the higher secondary level is a crucial entry point,” Sentiwapang said.
The NPS officer further noted that the period till graduation could also be the ‘most influential’ as the room for any course correction is available for most during that period. Apart from explaining various streams of studies available at each stage, he also gave tips to students on preparing for various competitive exams as well as dealing with setbacks reflecting from personal experience.
Earlier, CEDT board member, Nokin Longkumer, welcomed the gathering, while short speeches were delivered by Longjakrep Jamir, CKT president, and I Kumzuk Longkumer, member of Changtongya village council.
A Punaluba Longkumer, CEDT convenor, chaired the seminar and also proposed the vote of thanks.
