Dimapur, November 16

The Electoral Roll Observer of the Election Commission of India V Shashank Shekhar has said that the electoral roll of Dimapur is skewed and the population-to-roll ratio is inconsistent. The official met with the administration of Dimapur district and political parties November 15 to discuss “the ongoing summary revision of electoral rolls.”
“It was found that as compared with the census population, electorate/population ratios, in some constituencies the ratios were very high (more than 90%) and in some constituencies were very low (less then 40%) whereas the average ratio should be around 60%,” read a press statement from the election office, received here today.
Also, a number of steps should be taken during the revision of Electoral rolls for verification of Indian citizenship:
(i) To produce citizenship certificate issued by the competent authority.
(ii) Valid passport issued by Government of India
(iii) To produce certificate/document from the concerned ERO where he / she was registered as voter.
(iv) If evidence is establish that the person is illegal immigrant then, the name will be deleted suo moto by the ERO.
(v) In order to establish the authenticity of document, the submitted document will be sent back to the issuing authority for verification.
(vi) No  EPIC  will  be  issued  to  any  suspected  illegal  immigrant till claims for  citizenship is established.
(vii) If any Local woman married to any illegal immigrant, the whole family will be treated as illegal immigrant except the woman.
