St. Joseph University’s Commerce department held a 2-day national seminar on ‘Digital Banking’s Role in Financial Inclusion in India’ on August 10-11, sponsored by ICSSR.
DIMAPUR — Commerce department of St. Joseph University (SJU) organised a two-day national seminar on ‘Financial inclusion through digital banking in India’ on August 10 and 11. The seminar was sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).
In a keynote address, the university’s registrar, Dr. K Sethupathy, spoke on financial status in India, especially in northeastern states.
The guest speaker, Wopanthung Kikon, who is also the area manager of CRISIL Foundation from Nagaland, spoke on financial literacy, unified payment interface (UPI) and digital platforms of banking technologies adopted and gave a live demonstration on how to make payments through voice-based payment services with 123PAY app.
Dr. C Paramasivan, assistant professor of Commerce from Thanthai Periyar Arts & Science College in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, shared his views and thoughts about Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) scheme to increase the bank account opening with zero balance.
On day two, Dr. Parag Kumar Deka, professor of Commerce at Nagaland University, spoke on the uplift of the rural economy as well as enhancing the digital banking services for below-poverty-line (BPL) and above-poverty-line people in Nagaland.
Dr. J Arul Valan, assistant professor at NIT, Nagaland, spoke about digital banking and cyber security to digital banking users.
It stated that more than 200 participants presented their articles at St. Joseph University during the seminar.
