SJC conducts child counselling
Students of St. John Bosco School, Khonoma, with participants from various institutions during the ‘Child counselling’ programme, on Saturday.

DIMAPUR — The students of counselling psychology from St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Jakhama (SJC) conducted a one-day programme on ‘Child counselling’ with the children of St. John Bosco School, Khonoma, on Saturday.

Addressing the teachers and trainees, Rev. Fr. C Joseph, counsellor of St. Joseph’s College, said that counselling is not only for adults but equally important to children who are going through tough time of stress and distress, an update stated.

Highlighting some benefits of undergoing child counseling, Fr. Joseph shared that children instinctively gravitate to love.

He also said that counselling helps young children and teenagers to cope with various psychological and emotional traumas which are affect their mental health and wellbeing.

The two sessions included practical child counseling and cultural programme, which enabled the children to express themselves verbally and emotionally.

Headmistress of St. John Bosco School, Rev. Sr. Julia, thanked the participants from Carl Rogers Institute of Mental Health and Research Centre, teacher trainees on School counselling, counselling psychology students of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Jakhama and participants from Don Bosco Boys’ hostel, Jotsoma.
