Mokokchung, Nov. 29 (EMN):
The core committee of four youth associations, comprising Artang, Lijaba Lijen, Majakong and Penli wards, on Tuesday resolved to initiate indefinite road blockade (Main Police Point to Sewak Gate junction) from December 2 onwards after the expiry of the six-day ultimatum to repair the Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District (IMDH) road in Mokokchung town.

This was informed in a press conference called by the core committee of the four associations at Majakong Community Hall on Tuesday.

The convener of the core committee, Lanulemba Longchar, and secretary, Sentimatsung, informed that the four youth associations had raise this issue since August  seeking attention of the authority to repair the IMDH road, which is an important route for medical emergencies  not only for people of Mokokchung but also for neighbouring districts.

They informed that the four youth associations had approached the concerned authority through proper channels via submission of representation, joint statement, appealed to the chief minister and lastly issued an ultimatum in November.

‘However, till now there is no positive response from the concerned authority,’ they added.

In this connection, they informed that a joint coordination meeting between the four youth associations and respective ward authorities was held on Thursday where it was decided that indefinite road blockade of IMDH road would be initiated from December 2 onwards.  The blockade will start from 6 am to 6 pm, they added.

They further informed that press and medical emergencies will be exempted from the preview of the road blockade depending on the situation.

They also acknowledged the support given by various civil bodies regarding the issue and further appealed to the citizens of Mokokchung and beyond for their support and cooperation while initiating this blockade.

It may be mentioned that approximately 2 kilometre stretch of the IMDH road is in a pathetic state, making it difficult for small vehicles to ply the route while medical experts have said that the current road condition might prove critical for pregnant mothers and patients with medical emergencies.
