Six arrested in Mokokchung for LPG pilferage

[caption id="attachment_223828" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Six persons arrested by Mokokchung police on charges of pilferage.[/caption] Our Correspondent Mokokchung, Dec. 16 (EMN): The Mokokchung police on last Saturday arrested six people in connection with pilfering of domestic Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). The arrested persons were transporting the LPG cylinders in two commercial trucks from Tinsukia in Assam, and were bound for Mokokchung to be delivered to a gas agency. Police sources informed that the six people were arrested at NH 2 near Mongsenyimti village in Mokokchung district after they were caught red-handed ‘transferring the LPG from factory-sealed cylinders to empty cylinders.’ A number of sealing-tapes, cylinder cap, LPG gas passbooks along with three pilfering nozzles and sum of INR 54,000 which were collected after selling the illegitimate LPG cylinders, were recovered from the arrested persons, it was informed. According to the district police, reports of illegal siphoning of LPG cylinders have been doing the rounds for quite some time in the area. Police report stated that basing on specific information, a special operations team immediately reached the spot where the accused persons were caught in the act of crime at 1:30 am on Dec. 15. Police added that the accused persons have sold off 30 nos of LPG cylinders from each truck on their way at various locations at a rate of INR 850 per cylinder. The six persons in custody have been identified as Tilok Gogoi, Rohit Bor Gohan, Tongkeshwar Sonwar,  Robol  Dehingia, Gakul Dehingia and Dep Joyti Lahon. Police further informed that the detained persons admitted to committing the pilferage during preliminary inquiry and a case have been registered under section 285/336/407/420/379/34 IPC R/W Section 7 EC Act and further investigation is on. The two trucks filled with LGP cylinders are also now under the custody of Mokokchung police station-I.
