Sitharaman in Nagaland; will visit Indo-Myanmar border areas today

Dimapur, May 29 (EMN): The Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived at Dimapur on Tuesday to visit the Army’s Spear Corps Zone at Rangpahar in Nagaland.

A press release from the public relations officer (defence) informed that the defence minister was briefed about ‘counter terrorist as well as border management operations on Indo-Myanmar border’ in the Northeast states by Lieutenant General Gopal R, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding Spear Corps.     

Sitharaman will ‘depart for forward areas of Nagaland along the Indo-Myanmar border’ on May 30. “She will undertake a detailed assessment of the border guarding operations undertaken by Spear Corps and interact with officers and troops of the Assam Rifles operating along the border so as to make a firsthand assessment of the security situation there,” according to the statement. She will also meet and interact with the locals there.

After the visits, Sitharaman will return to Delhi on the same evening, it informed.
