Sitesol launches intensive English language course
KOHIMA — In a first of its kind, SABDA Institute of Tesol (Sitesol), Kohima, in partnership with Actesol Chiang Mai, Thailand, launched an intensive English language course at Capital College, Kohima, on Friday.
Director of Sitesol, Veduzolu Kezo, said the institute was established as faith venture and in response to a need of trained English language teachers, which is in demand both in English speaking and non-English speaking countries.
Kezo said that Nagaland being a Christian majority state with many young educated people has the potential to provide human resource to the other states and countries.
Seeing the huge opportunity for missions, Sabda Institute of Tesol was established as a faith venture to provide high quality training to qualified candidates, with the primary aim to contribute to the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, she said.
TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language and is regarded as “mother- certification for preparation to teach English to secondary language learners located both in native English speaking countries and countries of other majority languages,” Kezo explained.
The programme, which basically functions on Christian principles based on the mandate to teach and to make disciples, will cater to both theological and secular graduates who desire to serve as missionaries or to advance their profession in teaching English, she said.
The first course (one month) will be held at Capital College from August 21 to September 23, 2023.
The curriculum encompasses aspects of English language as well as theories of learning and teaching. It will provide the full certificate course meant for teaching any level of learners. The curriculum will be provided by the ASEAN Center for TESOL, Chiang Mai, Thailand, having the endorsement for quality standard by the Cornerstone University, Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA.
Earlier, Rev. Dr. Kevekhalo Lasuh, senior pastor of Chakhesang Baptist Church Kohima, offered the dedicatory prayer and David Chuzho, pastor Chakhesang Baptist Church Ministers’ Hill, Kohima, chaired the programme.
