Dimapur, Nov. 16 (EMN): The week-long 10th edition of Silver Cup T20 Cricket Tournament organised by Nepali Baptist Church Kohima Youth Department on the theme “Peace and unity through cricket” commenced at Jakhama local ground on Saturday, November 16.
An update received here on Saturday stated that 12 teams from Nagaland and Assam are competing in the tournament, which will conclude on November 23.
Playing the inaugural match, defending champions Esa Warriors thrashed Kohima Veterans by a huge margin of 160 runs.
ESA Warriors after losing the toss and batting first scored a mammoth 216 runs for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Roshan scored 101 runs off 48 balls while Dibash scored 43 runs off 20 balls for ESA Warriors.
Kohima Veterans Humchamo and Lanu took two wickets apiece.
In reply, Kohima Veterans were bowled out for just 56 runs.
Ritu of ESA Warrior took three wickets giving away a meagre three runs in two overs while Hanilung took two wickets giving away 14 runs in his 4 overs.
Roshan was adjudged the man of the match for his 101 runs.
Director of Rajya Sainik Board, Nagaland, Wing Commander Rajeev Dong attended the inaugural function as the chief guest.
In his address, the chief guest said with the coming of T20, cricket has become a popular game.
In this, he called upon the local players to take up the game seriously and work hard to move into higher level of tournaments.
He also lauded the organisers for providing a platform to the cricket players.
The champions and runners-up of the tournament will receive cash award of INR 80,000 and INR 40,000 with trophies and citations. The losing semi-finalist will receive INR 5,000 each. The player of the tournament will receive INR 5,000 while the highest wicket taker, highest run scorer and the best wicketkeeper will receive INR 3,000 each. The emerging player will receive INR 1000.
