Dimapur, Aug. 26 (EMN): Medical services across the state were affected on Wednesday as several associations linked to healthcare services extended support to the call of Nagaland In-service Doctors’ Association for a 24-hour shutdown to protest the alleged assault on Dr. Atoka Wotsa by IRB personnel on August 21.

The one day shutdown started at 6 am on Wednesday.

Medical services in private hospitals remain suspended on the day in solidarity with the medical fraternity in the protest against the assault on Dr Wotsa.

While OPDs, routine procedures, and all non-essential services remain closed, indoor patients and emergency services were not disturbed, it was reported.

Silent protest in Dimapur

The Dimapur Ambulance Union organised a silent protest at Clock Tower in Dimapur on Wednesday morning to protest the alleged assault on Dr. Atoka Wotsa by IRB personnel on August 21.

The president of the union informed that 13 ambulances along with its drivers from various private hospitals and clinics took part in the protest.

“We wanted to show support for Dr. Wotsa by having this silent protest even though we are just a few of us; I hope justice is brought soon,” said the president of the union.

Doctor responds to counter FIR by IRB

After a first information report (FIR) was filed by the IRB against the doctor, the latter has issued a statement on the matter.

“A little bit of common sense (is needed) to conclude that a single person cannot challenge five drunk guys and five armed IRB personnel. This is a complete mockery and a shocking turn of events where the victim is made the accused,” the statement read.

According to the victim and his brother, who is also a medical officer, there are a lot of evidences and eyewitness accounts to debunk “their (IRB) fake narration and accusations”.

“Polygraph tests and narco-analysis to aid in investigations for the truth is always available,” stated the doctor.
