Sikpui Ruoi festival of Hmars celebrated in Karbi Anglong

Hmar tribal women participate in the Miss Sikpui Ruoi-2017 beauty pageant which was part of the post harvest festival of the tribe in Diphu on Dec 5.Diphu, Dec.5(EMN): The Hmar Community of Karbi Anglong has celebrated annual Karbi Anglong District Level Sikpui Ruoi, a post harvest festival of the community at Covenant High School conference hall on Tuesday. The 26th edition of the festival since its start was organised under the aegis of Hmar Students Association, Diphu zone.

The Chief Guest Pu. S. Thiek, Rtd. secretary government of Assam and President of Karbi Anglong Hmar Association while speaking on the occasion said  “Sikpui Ruoi is a festival of peace and prosperity. It is also celebrated as a post harvest festival of the community. Hmar Community also resides in almost every constituency of the Karbi Anglong autonomous council, including constituencies of  Lumbajong, Singhason, Bokajan and Hamren. This festival is celebrated everywhere in Karbi Anglong on this very day. From time immemorial Sikpui Ruoi festival is celebrated in the manner of peace and tranquillity of the community. The coming together of the community during the festival was practised since ancient times, as a part of harvest, and also it has a significance in the modern days.”

Furthermore, Thiek also said, the festival is incomplete unless it got the support, goodwill and blessing of the Karbi Anglong Autonmous Council.

During the program, Miss Sikpui Ruoi-2017, a beauty contest was also conducted.
