Sikkim favourite destination for foreign tourists among NE states

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]ikkim has become the most favoured destination of foreign tourists in the Northeastern states of the country.
While the state received 23,602 tourists in 2011, the figures were 26,489 in 2012 and 31,698 in 2013 respectively, a press release issued by the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) quoting the latest figures of the Tourism Ministry issued by the Centre said.Sikkim is followed by Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura respectively, the release said.
Tourism development has been the “priority” of the SDF government and the state government has been working for tourism development for a long time creating “world class tourism infrastructure in the state”, the SDF release said.
The release said the state has already been recognised as the best place to visit, in the world famous travel guidebook ‘Lonely Planet’.

Chamling invited to Indo-Bangladesh conclave

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]ikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has received an invitation to attend the India-Bangladesh Business Conclave to be held in Dhaka on August 23-24 next, official sources said.Organised by the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the conclave is billed to focus on regional connectivity across South Asia and find ways for removal of bottlenecks in the free flow of trade and commerce.
The organizers, in their invitation letter to the Chief Minister, expressed confidence that his views would help in finding a new road map for strengthening economic relations between the two countries, the sources said.
