Significant rise in tobacco and alcohol consumers in Nagaland, says survey

Dimapur, Dec. 16 (EMN): Tobacco users and alcohol consumers in Nagaland have increased comparatively in the last four years, according to the National Health Family Survey 2019-2020 (NHFS-5) by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
It stated that 48.4% of men and 13.7% of women use any kind of tobacco and 24.0% of men and 0.9% of women consume alcohol in Nagaland. This survey was based on men and women who are above the age of 15.
NHFS -4 (2015-2016), had showed that 0.1% of women aged 15-49 years; 22.3% of men aged 15-54 years and 38% of men aged 15-49, consumed alcohol while 1.3% of women and 17.6% of men aged 15-49 years uses any kind of tobacco.
The survey was conducted on 10, 112 households, 9,694 women and 1,456 men.
NFHS-5 fieldwork for Nagaland was conducted from July 2019 to December 2019, by Research and Development Initiative (RDI) Pvt. Ltd.
