Shutters down, roads deserted as Dimapur is containment zone now

Dimapur, May 6 (EMN): Shop in Dimapur downed shutters by 2 pm on Thursday and the streets wore a deserted look following the directive of the chief secretary of Nagaland to shut shops and business activities early given the alarming surge in Covid-19 cases.

In a separate notification issued on Tuesday, the deputy commissioner of Dimapur also informed that containment zones in the district would include all colonies falling within the 23 wards under the jurisdiction of Dimapur Municipal Council, all colonies under the jurisdiction of Chümoukedima Town Council and all colonies/villages along Dimapur-Chümoukedima four-lane road.

Further, the Home Department issued an order restricting movement and activities for seven days from 7 pm with effect from May 5.

One of the busiest commercial hubs in Dimapur- Dhobinala wore a deserted look as all shops were shut down, while fruits and vegetables vendors were seen packing up their goods before the deadline of 2 pm.

Only few pharmacies could be seen open as was exempted from the purview of the restriction.

The vehicular movement also came down drastically and only few vehicles were seen plying on the road.

A police personnel informed Eastern Mirror that no violations were reported in the city and that they had patrolled the city thrice on the day.  He added that citizens were following the government order till the time of filing this report.
