DIMAPUR — The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has called for a 12-hour shut down in Tuensang town, in view of a crucial meeting with the 20 MLAs and one Rajya Sabha MP from the eastern region on Tuesday.

The house is expected to discuss matters pertaining to the delay in creation of Frontier Nagaland Territory followed by adoption of a public resolution.

As per a notice issued by the Eastern Nagaland Public Emergency Control Room Tuensang HQ, “all business establishments, vehicular and public movements including educational institutions only within Tuensang town will remain totally shut from 6 AM to 6 PM”.

However, all delegates coming for the meeting, cases of medical emergencies, and fire and emergency services are exempted from the purview of the shutdown.

Additionally, the control room also informed invitees to ‘come in private vehicles and without personal bodyguards’ as the movement of government vehicles is prohibited in the eastern districts.

Legislators still in Delhi

Meanwhile, the members of Eastern Nagaland Legislator’s Union (ENLU) could miss the proposed meeting as they are still camping in New Delhi to meet the central leaders.

Confirming their presence in the Capital, ENLU secretary, MLA Lima Onen Chang, told Eastern Mirror that the legislators met with interlocutor AK Mishra on Monday, but did not divulge details of the meeting.

He, however, said that the team is waiting to meet the Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Ajay Kumar Bhalla in the evening.

It may be recalled that the meeting was originally convened on March 15 by the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) but was postponed to March 19 as the ENLU members were travelling to Delhi.

The ENLU, however, requested the ENPO to postpone the scheduled meeting, stating that they were camping in the national capital in connection with the demand of the eastern Nagaland but the latter decided not to reschedule the meeting, saying that there was “no point in meeting central leaders” as the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha election had come into effect.
