The Naga People’s Front (NPF) led by Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu on Wednesday met the Election Commission of India (ECI) and presented relevant documents justifying the claims on the ‘original NPF Party’. Sources from the Shurhozelie led NPF said that their president Dr. Shürhozelie along with Chief Minister TR Zeliang and secretary general of the party KG Kenye met the ECI and submitted all relevant documents while also apprising the Commission that the ‘dissident group’ under Noke Wangnao claiming to be original NPF party has not followed any proper procedures.
Confirming the meeting between the Shurhozelie led NPF leaders and ECI, NPF-led DAN spokesman and Parliamentary Secretary for School Education, Yitachu said, “It is all normal and natural procedure for ECI to seek clarification from the actual party (NPF) as some other group had submitted petition for recognition”. He said that just in a matter of two days things will be resolved.
Yitachu also revealed that Chief Minister TR Zeliang also met the Prime Minister today. He however did not divulge much of the discussions between the two leaders, but said that the Chief Minister discussed issues relating to the present political imbroglio within the NPF-led DAN and also other important State related issues with the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, sources in the Shurhozelie led NPF and the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) claimed that now that the position has been made clear by the NPF president and the Chief Minister, the petition of the ‘dissident group’ will be rejected by the ECI.
Nonetheless, a letter of the ECI issued yesterday by secretary Varinder Kumar and addressed to Noke Wangnao has clearly stated, “On receipt of the reply to be filed by Shürhozelie Liezietsu to your application, you may file your rejoinder (supported by affidavits and with 5 spare copies) within a week. The copy of the same should be served on Shurhozelie Liezietsu directly, under intimation to the Commission”.
Dr. Shürhozelie, TR Zeliang and KG Kenye had left for Delhi yesterday and would be returning on Thursday, sources added.
