Shurhozelie emerges as possible candidate to replace Zeliang
Dimapur, Feb. 14: While the state reels under the protest called by apex Naga tribe bodies, the demand for resignation of the chief minister – led by the JCC and the NTAC – has set the ball rolling for a (possible) change of guard in the corridors of power at Kohima.
A very reliable source informed that some of the cabinet members were on a signature campaign to replace the current chief minister TR Zeliang by making the NPF chief Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu as the leader of the house.
It was reported that there were intense parleys and lobbying among the elected representatives, with some choosing to stick with Zelaing while some wanted a change of guard to salvage the government.
However, another source said that there was also an air of uncertainty because the BJP – being one of the alliance partners of the DAN government – it would require a green signal from the centre for any change in the current ministry.
