Showcase for local artisans’ handicrafts begins

Kohima, October 21 (EMN): A handicrafts and handloom exhibition organised by the establishment of development officer (Handicrafts), ministry of Textiles, Handicrafts Service Centre (HSC) at Kohima is underway on Monday at Hotel Grandeur.
The event was inaugurated by the general manager of District Industries Centre Temjem Jamir.

Addressing the artisans and well-wishers there at the event, Jamir expressed appreciation for their effort and for being the ambassadors of Nagaland. He urged the artisans to pass on their skills and train youngsters in the trade, being part of shaping their future.

Earlier, the senior assistant director T Rollee Vareishim said that the programme was organised to showcase the talents of local artisans. He asserted that the event was a collaborative platform and an opportunity to sell the products with assurance of quality and the brand of having been locally produced.

The participating artisans are pioneers of art and crafts and are award winners at various levels, he said. The official urged the artisans registered and to avail the artisans’ pension benefits.

Speaking during the sidelines of the programme to Eastern Mirror, the official said two national award winners, a national merit award winner, seven state award winners, a Northeast best entrepreneur award winner, besides a skilled artisan are participating in the programme.

He invited the people of Kohima to visit the event and get the finest products.

‘The artisans are the real promoters of handicrafts and handlooms of the state. We should support and promote them,’ Vareishim said.

The event will continue till October 25.
