In an election-related violence, miscreants reportedly hurled a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) made of gelatin stick at the residences of Janthungo Kikon, chairman of Tsungiki Village Council, and Chopathung Odyuo, former candidate from 37 Tyui AC, at around 10 pm on February 16 at Wokha Town.

The low intensity improvised bombs were reportedly hurled at the compounds of the duo but there was no report of injuries from the incidents.

Janthungo Kikon has filed an FIR in connection with this incident and investigations are on.

Meanwhile, Rashtriyas Janata Dal (RJD) candidate for 37 Tyui AC, Y Kikon, has condemned the “bomb blast” incident at Janthungo’s residence, terming it as an act of cowardice against the vulnerable family members which has caused threat to their lives.

He also appealed to the general public to condemn the same and requested the law enforcing authority to nap the culprits and take action as per the law of the land.

In another incident, miscreants opened fire at a vehicle belonging to one T. Ezanthung Lotha at GHSS colony in Wokha, at around 6 pm on Friday. Fortunately, no one was said to be inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.

An FIR has been lodged on the matter as per sources.
