Shitilong SA triumph over Mongsenbai to enter semis

Mokokchung, October 18: Shitilong SA, the runners-up of last year MDFA Trophy 2015, overcame a tough match against Mongsenbai Youngsterz SC 2-1 in the third quarter final match of the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2016 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex here today.
Shitilong SA, one of the strongest contenders for this year’s edition of MDFA Trophy, suffered a serious setback when Mongsenbai’s striker, Khriekethzo scored an unexpected goal from distance in the 15th minute. The powerful kick by Khriekethzo bounced off the ground once and went past the Shitilong goalkeeper into the net. However, during the goal celebration, Khriekethzo remove his jersey for which he was penalised with a yellow card.But Shitilong SA was not intimidated, and the counter-attack was vicious. In fact, the ball possession was in favour of Shitilong and they made some serious on-target attempts but they could not get an equaliser in the first half.
The second half of the match witnessed a real turn in the 48th minute, when a corner kick was awarded to Shitilong SA whiche Khethozhaphu successfully headed in for the equalising goal.
Mongsenbai YFC defences were in confusion, while a rejuvenated Shitilong midfield with their short passes tried to infringe for another goal. There were some serious long shots – on target – by both the teams.
Shitilong attempts finally paid off in the 61st minute through a deflected corner kick, which defender S Supongmar Jamir converted a goal through a free kick.
