SHGs trained on poultry farming

Dimapur, August 6 (EMN): With a view to create employment opportunity, upgrade skill and developing qualitative standard of the product for Self Help Group (SHG), a training cum demonstration was organised by ATMA, Chumukedima block, under Dimapur district August 4 in Model village. Deputy Project Director ATMA, Janet Chishi, who also chaired the programme, encouraged the SHG members to co-ordinate and work together to uplift the socio-economic condition of the farming community. Resource person Dr. Sentinungla, vice principal VFATI, Medziphema, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, highlighted on management of poultry rearing. She explained that for any poultry rearing, management becomes very important. She also stressed on the scientific management of poultry rearing like selection of poultry breeds, feeds, housing and all in and all out system. Janet Chishi also explained about cultivation of Azolla, which is an excellent alternate feed supplement for livestock, poultry and fishes. Taking up the technical session on Vermicompost, Atsumong, SCA, Department of Soil Conservation, spoke on construction of vermicompost pit, proper management and harvesting of vermicompost. Altogether 25 participants attended the programme.
