SHG should be nodal agents to strengthen society — Acharya

Dimapur, May 21 (EMN): The Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya said Self Help Groups (SHG) should be the pillars for not only strengthening the economy but the society and also should be the nodal agents to strengthen the society.
While encouraging the SHG members present at an interactive meet to review their situation and come up with ideas how to strengthen the society, Acharya added that sincerity to ones goal and self is the first step to success.
He was interacting with the Nagaland Rural Livelihood Mission SHG members and the SVEP entrepreneurs of the state represented by the SHG members of Jakhama block on May 21 at Durbar hall, Raj Bhavan in Kohima. Update received from Raj Bhavan on Monday informed.
Every individual can contribute to the development and welfare of the society and one such living example are the members of the Self Help Group (SHG) of Jakhama block, Acharya said.
Governor explained that India belongs to the villages and if villages prosper India will shine and with that in mind the Central and state governments have introduced various welfare programmes for the benefit of the villages.
He called on the SHG to avail schemes and programmes to strengthen them and to also inform other villages about welfare programmes.
Congratulating the Pete Village Level Organisation of Kezoma village for receiving the Best VLO National Award 2018, governor said it was a great achievement not only for the VLO but for the state as well.
The Coo and Skills of NSRLM, Menuoneituo Chadi, who also presided over the meeting, informed that 515 villages in 29 blocks under nine districts in Nagaland were under intensive implementation under NRLM.
Additional Secretary RD Athel O Lotha, who is also the mission director of NSRLM, delivered the welcome address.
During an interactive session, the SHG members highlighted the need for setting up marketing sheds and proper public toilets.
National awardee, Pete VLO presented on activities carried out by the group.
