Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial CRPF Football Tournament kicks off

IMPHAL — The 14th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial CRPF Football Tournament 2023-24 organised by the 143 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force commenced at Sports Authority of India (SAI) Sports Complex, Takyelpat, in Imphal on Monday.

Organised in association with the All Manipur Football Association and Imphal West District Football Association, a total of 24 teams are participating in the tournament held from February 5 to the 17th.

Minister of Municipal Administration Housing and Urban Development, Yumnam Khemchand; Additional DGP (L&O) Lupheng Kailun; Inspector General of Police (Manipur and Nagaland sector) CRPF, Akhilesha Prasad; DIG (Ops) CRPF H Premjit; and DIG (Admn) CRPF Ram Yophang Duidag-led CRPF officers were present during the opening ceremony of the 13-day football tournament.

On the first day, Southern Sporting Union (SSU) Singjamei of Imphal West District defeated Imphal United Sekmai, also from Imphal West district, 4-2 in a penalty shootout after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Classic FA won the 13th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial CRPF Football Tournament 2022-23.

The Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial State Open Football Tournament has been organized annually since 2010 in memory of (Late) Ng Manoranjan Singh, who served in CRPF as Asst Comdt. He made the supreme sacrifice during a special operation along with his batchmate and colleague Late Rakesh Chaurasia, Asst Comdt, and six other jawans near Singanmadugu village under Chintagufa police station in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district on September 17, 2009.
