Dimapur, July 3 (EMN): The District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC), Mon, conducted a one-day teacher’s training on Tobacco Free Educational Institution (Tofei) at Sacred Heart School in Mon on June 30.
During the training, seven schools were declared ‘tobacco-free and Tofei certificates were handed over to the respective schools. The tobacco-free schools are Sacred Heart School Mon, Green Valley School Mon, Green Mount School Mon, Eastern School Mon, Eastwood School Mon, Police Unit School Mon and Holy Cross School Mon.
A DIPR report stated that the training was conducted in two sessions. The first session was on “Adverse effects of tobacco consumption” and the second on “Tofei”.
The district nodal officer, NTCP Mon, Dr. I Simon Sumi has emphasised on how the use and consumption of tobacco products affect the human body. He also stressed on how the consumption of tobacco contributes in spreading the coronavirus in the community.
It stated that the district consultant, NTCP Mon, E Nyeamying Konyak has briefed about guidelines of Tofei. She also elaborated on the criteria for the school to declare as tobacco-free and the initiative an institution could take up after the declaration of tobacco-free school. Altogether, 27 teachers and heads of the institutions from different schools attended the training.
