GUWAHATI, OCTOBER 30

Seven Bodo insurgents, who were on their way to Myanmar for training, have been arrested from Guwahati and from Dimapur town in Nagaland, police said Thursday.
The arrested cadres are from the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) faction opposed to peace talks with the government.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) R.M. Singh said five cadres were arrested from Guwahati Wednesday night, while two were later nabbed from Dimapur.
“All the arrested cadres are new recruits of the outfit and they were on their way to Myanmar for undergoing arms training at camps in the country,” the police official said.
The NDFB’s anti-talk faction, led by its leader I.K. Songbijit, has about 300 cadres at present. Police said it was carrying out fresh recruitment in Udalguri, Darrang and Sonitpur districts of Assam.
Meanwhile, George Lahiri, a 23-year-old cadre of the outfit, Thursday surrendered before police. He handed over a pistol and four rounds of ammunition.
Police said he had joined the outfit in 2011 and underwent training in Myanmar for over two years.

PTI adds: Seven suspected terrorists of NDFB(S) were arrested from different places in the state, including five from the capital, when they were planning to go to Myanmar via Nagaland for training.
Out of the seven, two militants were apprehended from Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district.
“After getting a tip-off, we started following the activities of the militants. When they were about to leave the city, we arrested them last night,” Guwahati Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Prakash Tiwari told PTI here.
While three militants were nabbed from the inter-state bus terminus, two were apprehended from the railway station in the state capital, he added “All of them were going to Nagaland. After meeting at a common place there, they were planning to go to Myanmar for training,” Tiwari said.
He said the NDFB(S) cadres have been identified as Rabilal Narzary alias Shayaram Narzary, Amit Boro alias Paban, Protap Narzary, Sanjib Basumatary and Kishna Daimary.
Tiwari said police is carrying out further investigation to find out the linkmen between the organisation and the cadres .
Karbi Anglong Superintendent of Police Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta said two terrorists of NDFB(S) were arrested by Khatkhati police station under the Bokajan sub division.
“They were about to leave for Myanmar for training en-route Nagaland. We got an information about their assembly at the place for onward journey to Nagaland,” he added.
Police also recovered cash of Rs 20,000 and one mobile set from the duo, Mahanta said.
The militants have been identified as Sam Basumatary and Bikash Borgoyari, he added.
