Dimapur, May 23 (EMN): Sericulture department along with Green Team Nagaland organised an awareness and sensitisation training on plastic pollution in its directorate’s conference hall, Kohima, on May 22 with LH Thangi Mannen, convener of Green Team Nagaland, and Ella Mary from Youth Action for Rural Development as resource persons.
Speaking during the programme, Thangi Mannen stated that the department of Sericulture is the first department in the State to ever invite Green Team for organising the sensitising training on plastic pollution.
Thangi Mannen also stated that humans have created billions of metric tons of plastic since the early 1950s and has become an emerging challenge today. She added that plastic threatens wild life, poisons the food chain and affects human health.
Director of Sericulture, Chubameren stated that the department of Sericulture has organised the sensitisation training in compliance to the State government’s notification to discourage use of plastics.
The training concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Sanny Pongener, Deputy Director of Sericulture.
