Sensitisation programme under BBBP held in Kohima
DIMAPUR — Kohima district administration, in collaboration with the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Kohima, held an orientation and sensitisation programme under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) on Wednesday at Khonoma.
According to a press release, Tiayanger Jamir, SDO(C) , Sechü Zubza, explained to the gathering on the occasion, which consisted of students and others, that patriarchy, which causes women to be neglected, was a major reason for the implementation of the BBBP scheme in India.
He urged the community to give women equal rights, equal attention, and an equal platform.
Dr. Teputo, medical officer, Khonoma, said in his brief speech on ‘Sexual health, menstrual health, and mental health’ that not only a healthy body is necessary, but a healthy mind is also essential for the overall development of an individual. In cases of depression, anxiety, or other mental issues, he encouraged students to seek help.
He noted that the stigma associated with mental health and menstrual health should be removed from society.
The POSCO Act and its various aspects, such as the definition of offences, reporting of offences, lodging FIRs, counselling, and so on, were highlighted by Viliezonuo Rhetso, advocate and panel lawyer, Kohima DLSA. She emphasised the ‘best interests of the child’ as a primary factor to be considered when dealing with sexual offence cases involving children.
Sohile Tep, Poshan Abhiyaan district coordinator, highlighted the Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme (SSY) and explained that it is intended for the girl child’s education and marriage. She also mentioned the eligibility criteria, age limit, where to apply, required documents, interest rates, and so on.
Vimenu Richa, DEO for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), DHEW, Kohima, talked about PMMVY and explained the objectives of the scheme, who can apply, the documents required, and where to apply.
During the programme, free sanitary pads were distributed through Project Baala. Project Baala is a provider of menstrual health solutions with the goal of ensuring that every woman and girl has access to affordable and sustainable menstrual hygiene solutions.
The chairman of Khonoma village presented the vote of thanks.
